Biography

Cellist

Knowing that I had two passions in life, music and science (physics, math), I knew for sure that the most important thing in my life is music. That’s why, at the age of 18, I decided to study the cello at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Jeroen Reuling. During this time I had the opportunity to get masterclasses by renown cellists such as: Maria Kliegel, Gary Hoffman, Adrian Brendel and many more. As an Erasmus-student I went to study with Marcio Carneiro in Detmold (Germany). Besides my main instrument, I was taking many classes as an extra: piano, singing, music theory and counterpoint. These choices during my study are nowadays still helping me to really understand the music and easily navigate through complex orchestral scores.

During my study at the conservatory though, I have felt that I was clearly missing half of my life, namely my passion for technology. Since I was really attracted to recordings and media in general, the German “Tonmeister”-education was exactly the right future for me.

Learning how to record

Tonmeister

After obtaining my master in Brussels, I decided to start the Tonmeister-education at the University of the Arts Berlin. During my study I was very open-minded and tried to get experience in all different aspects of sound recording and music production. I was not limiting myself to classical music recording, but I followed courses in popular music, musical, jazz-piano, film-music (scoring), foley, radio play, sound reinforcement…

As an intern, I gained a lot of practical experiences at Polyhymnia International in the Netherlands, which is the former “Philips Classics Recording Centre”. At the Galaxy Studio’s in Belgium, I had the chance to experiment with Auro-3D and see a lot of scoring-sessions.

After finishing my Diplom Tonmeister in Berlin, I immediately started working for Polyhymnia and for PolyCast as an employee, where I worked for over 5 years and had great opportunities to work with some of the greatest musicians and orchestra’s in the world, such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker.
